Step 1 — Know how the final four was decided
All four quarter-finals are done, and two of them needed extra time:
- QF1 — France 2-0 Morocco (9 July, Foxborough)
- QF2 — Spain 2-1 Belgium (10 July, Los Angeles)
- QF3 — England 2-1 Norway, after extra time (11 July, Miami)
- QF4 — Argentina 3-1 Switzerland, after extra time (11 July, Kansas City)
England and Argentina both went the distance in their last-eight ties — worth filing away, because tired legs matter once you reach a one-off semi-final.
Step 2 — Fix the AEST kickoff times
Both semis kick off at the same Australian hour, on back-to-back mornings. Set two alarms.

Step 3 — Read the outright board
These are the four survivors on the tournament-winner market. Prices are decimal, quoted as ranges across FanDuel (via FOX) and DraftKings (via Sports Illustrated), as of 14 July AEST morning.

France is the clear favourite across every book. The interesting bit is second favourite: the books split — FanDuel edges England (4.10) ahead of Spain, while DraftKings has Spain (4.20) narrowly clear of England. Argentina is the longest of the four on most lists, though DraftKings tightens them to 4.60.
Step 4 — Weigh SF1: best attack v best defence
France v Spain is a genuine heavyweight clash of styles:
- France arrive perfect — 6 wins from 6, 16 goals scored, only one or two conceded all tournament. Kylian Mbappé is joint top scorer on 8.
- Spain are unbeaten in a team-record 36 matches and conceded just once across the whole World Cup before the Belgium quarter-final. A draw or win here would equal Italy’s all-time unbeaten record of 37.

Step 5 — Weigh SF2: a rivalry reawakened
England v Argentina is the first World Cup meeting between the pair since 2002 — and it drags the whole 1986 and 1998 history back into the room.
- England are through to their first semi since 2018, chasing a first final since 1966. Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham lead the side on 6 goals each. Defender Jarell Quansah is suspended for this one.
- Argentina are the reigning champions, bidding to become only the third nation ever to defend the World Cup. Lionel Messi is joint top scorer on 8 and has scored or assisted in every knockout game.

Step 6 — Plan the rest of the bracket
- Final: Sunday 19 July, MetLife Stadium, New Jersey — Monday 20 July, 05:00 AEST.
- Third-place play-off: Saturday 18 July, Miami — Sunday 19 July, 07:00 AEST.
The two semi-final winners meet in the final; the two losers contest third place. If you are building an outright position now, remember the "reach the final" market in Step 3 often carries cleaner value than the raw winner price once you have a strong read on one semi.
Our verdict
France are the rightful favourites and the numbers back it — best attack, meanest defence-beaters, a perfect record. But 2.37–2.50 is a skinny price for a side that must still win two knockout games, and Spain’s psychological edge in recent semis is real. For value, the “reach the final” lines and the individual match markets (in our two match previews) give Aussie punters more room than the outright.
